Enchanting Halloween Lanterns

Trick or Treat Me

Enchanting Halloween Lanterns

The best part of this project is that you can upcycle various jars you might already have in your house. Look for different sizes and shapes for variety. If you jars have labels, you can remove them by soaking them in hot water and scrubbing them off. Use spray paint in a pretty purple color to paint the outsides of the jars, taking care to spray a very thin and even layer to keep the jars translucent. You can test the paint opacity by putting a candle inside one of the jars to check if the light comes through. These little electric tea lights are very handy for this. Once the paint has dried, it’s time to create the magic! There are various ways of putting the designs on the jars, including drawing, painting, cutting out a design or using vinyl.

Depending on what you’re more comfortable with, you can use paint markers or acrylic paint. There are even special paints for using on glass. A tip if you’re using acrylic paint is to mix it with white craft glue, it will make the paint stick better and be more flexible.

For more ease, you can print and cut out the design on paper or vinyl and then simply stick it on the jars.

Add a candle in the finished jars and bring Halloween magic to your home!
